Green Leaf was engaged to provide full building services engineering for the Somerset community in Esk.The original Somerset Civic Centre was a heritage listed timber building recently destroyed by fire. Our brief was to design a resilient facility that would allow the space to be as flexible as possible and to facilitate a variety of uses, including celebratory dinners, theatrical performances, art exhibitions and community meetings.
The building form reflects the rural nature of the area, being a modern interpretation of an agricultural structure. Green Leaf identified the possibility of enhancing the sustainability of the building while reducing ongoing operating costs through using existing water bore to pre-chill the air for the mechanical air system before returning the water to the aquifer.
